Equine Surgical Services, Inc. (ESS), was founded by Dr. Rodrigo Vazquez in 2000. We are a sports medicine and surgical referral practice that operates out of the Helen Woodward Equine Hospital (HWEH) located in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. HWEH is a complete surgical and medical center, equipped to perform the most advanced diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures. These include but are not limited to:

HWEH is stocked with a full line of surgical implants to provide fracture repair for most situations.

Our hospital is equipped with one of only two swimming pool recovery systems on the west coast. This allows us to safely recover fracture repair patients after their surgeries. 

The hospital is staffed 24/7 which allows prompt attention and intervention for the acute and painful colic patients and allows us to complete a range of abdominal procedures as soon as they are needed. 

We work with all breeds of horses, with particular emphasis in the dressage and hunter/jumper disciplines.
